Making Money at Music

For more than a year, Kristin Thomson of the Future of Music Coalition has been studying the findings of an in-depth study on how much money the average artist really makes. This week she released more data busting the myth that “musicians are rich.”

According to her findings from an online survey of more than 5,000 musicians, average gross annual estimated music income for working musicians in the U.S. is $34,455.

If income from other jobs and investments is factored in, the number jumps to $55,561.
