Wu Lyf Goes Totally Insane Over Sexist Car Ad

November 15, 2012 | 0

Manchester, England based group Wu Lyf are seeing red over a sexist Toyota ad from the Netherlands that they claim uses their music without permission. In addition, Wu Lyf says they weren’t asked by Toyota or paid for the use of the song “Heavy Pop,” featured in the ad.

The Toyota GT86 ad called “Wives Go Totally Insane When Their Men Buy the Toyota GT86,” depicts wives angry that their husbands purchased the little red sports car to satisfy a mid-life crisis. One wife even smashes the car’s windshield.

The band posted the following on their Facebook page:

TO ANYBODY INTERESTED AS TO WHY WE ARE FEATURED IN A TOYOTA ADVERT:

We too are interested to know why our music is featured in a sexist sports car advert that encourages men to live out their ‘inner chauvinist’.

We have not consented to this, we have not earned a penny from this and on behalf of the band I am fucking angry about this.

The post ends, “Wouldn’t have minded so much if it was for a Lamborghini.”

No response from Toyota.
