Programs
MEOW designs presentations and workshops appropriate to all age levels and groups. Here are a few of our current offerings:
- A Brief History Of Women in Music - From Big Mama Thornton to Nicki Minaj, the history of women in music is seldom taught. Here is a great opportunity to learn about the famous and lesser-known pioneers of contemporary music and get inspired. Great for middle school and high school students.
- Beauty and the Beat - This lecture examines both the triumphs and the media backlash for everyone from Madonna and Lady Gaga to the Dixie Chicks and Nicki Minaj. Talking points include how do you maintain control of your own image and music? Can you be a mom and tour too? Who are today’s up-and-coming artists and how did they get there? This speech is ideal for gender studies students and women’s centers.
- Music and Gender - Women in music are often presented as highly sexualized in so many of today’s videos. This workshop introduces young people (and parents) to women who present a whole different image. This presentation is designed to empower young people and make them more educated consumers. This workshop is ideal for parents and young people to experience and discuss together.
